Cut Your Heating Bills and Move Off Oil or Gas

A heat pump pulls renewable heat energy out of the outside air and turns it into space heating and hot water for your home. Running costs are significantly lower than an oil or gas boiler.

Modern air to water units perform well in the Irish climate and reach efficiencies of 300 to 400 per cent, producing 3 to 4 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity they use.

A heat pump only delivers that in a well insulated home. We review your heat loss and insulation levels at feasibility stage and tell you whether upgrades are needed alongside the installation.

  • Home suitability assessment with heat loss reviewed before anything is specified
  • SEAI grant support of up to €12,500, with the full application prepared and submitted for you

Why BuildTech

Why Dublin Homeowners Choose BuildTech for Heat Pumps

We are SEAI registered for heat pump installation. We assess your home’s suitability, prepare and submit the grant application, and install the full system in house, which means one contractor from assessment to handover.

We do not install heat pumps in homes that are not ready for one. If your heat loss is too high for the system to run efficiently, we will say so and advise on what needs to happen first.

  • We do not progress projects without a clear agreed budget, always
  • SEAI registered with the full grant application handled on your behalf
  • Suitability assessed honestly and we advise if insulation upgrades are needed first
  • Total cost confirmed before installation begins
  • Full system commissioned and tested with operating guidance at handover

How the SEAI Heat Pump Grant Works in 2026

The heat pump grant increased in February 2026 and is now worth up to €12,500 for a house. We handle the application from the first eligibility check through to drawdown.

What the Grant Is Worth

The €12,500 is a bundle of three grants. Up to €6,500 for the heat pump system itself, up to €2,000 towards central heating upgrades such as new radiators or underfloor heating where they are needed, and a €4,000 Renewable Heat Bonus for homeowners replacing an oil, gas, solid fuel or electric storage heating system. Apartments qualify for up to €9,500.

Who Can Apply

Your home needs an MPRN and must have been built and occupied before 2021. Owner occupiers, landlords, companies, holiday homes and approved housing bodies are all eligible

Technical Assessment

If your home was built before 2007, a technical assessment is required unless you already hold a valid BER showing a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 W/(K.m²) or less. Homes built from 2007 onwards do not need one. A €200 grant is available towards the assessment.

Application and Approval

We prepare and submit the application. Grant approval must be in place before any work starts, and works that begin early cannot be grant aided. You have 30 days to accept the offer and eight months to complete the works.

Drawdown and Certification

A post works BER assessment is required before the grant is paid, and a €50 grant is available towards it. We complete the paperwork with you and provide engineer certification on completion

Common Issues

What Makes a Heat Pump Underperform in an Irish Home

Most disappointment with heat pumps traces back to a small number of avoidable issues. These are the ones we see most often in Dublin homes.

High Heat Loss

A heat pump runs at a lower flow temperature than a boiler. In a home that loses heat quickly it cannot keep up, and running costs rise instead of falling.

Undersized Radiators

Existing radiators are sized for hot boiler water. At heat pump flow temperatures some rooms need larger radiators, which the €2,000 central heating grant now helps to cover

Wrong System Sizing

A unit specified without a proper heat loss calculation will either short cycle or struggle in cold weather. The survey exists to prevent exactly this.

Controls Left Unexplained

A heat pump switched on and off like a boiler will cost more to run. We hand over with operating guidance so the system is used the way it was designed.

A Clear Path From First Call to Working Heat Pump

  1. Feasibility

Heat loss, suitability and budget confirmed before any design work starts

  1. Survey and Design

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

SEAI requires a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 W/(K.m²) or less. Homes built before 2007 usually need a technical assessment to confirm this. We check heat loss at feasibility stage.
Up to €12,500 for a house since February 2026. That is up to €6,500 for the system, up to €2,000 for central heating upgrades and €4,000 for replacing a fossil fuel boiler. Apartments get up to €9,500
A full air to water installation typically costs €10,000 to €18,000 gross. With the maximum €12,500 grant applied, the amount you fund yourself can fall to between nothing and roughly €5,500, depending on which components you qualify for.
Yes. The grant is paid after the works are complete and your paperwork is submitted, so you fund the installation and the grant follows. Payment usually takes four to six weeks
A standard air to water installation typically takes 3 to 5 days. We schedule the work to keep the period without heating and hot water as short as possible.
